Activating Human Potential as a Leadership Imperative

Dr. Angie Paccione explores why potential remains untapped in organizations and what leaders must do to activate it.

Dr. Angie Paccione, recently honored as Colorado 9News Leader of the Year, has always believed that leadership is about activating human potential. Not potential defined by what could be but rather defined by what already is… within individuals, teams, and organizations. This is especially pertinent today as we face increasing challenges at home, at work, and in our communities.

There is no shortage of talent, capability, intelligence, or effort. Organizations are filled with individuals who are not only highly competent but are also deeply committed to the work in front of them. Well, especially during their first month on the job – but a common theme we see in organizations is that leaders rarely tap into the full potential.

Why is that?

Because potential doesn’t activate on its own. The natural state of potential is un-activated! Potential can also be de-activated by many small, insidious increments, such as people not speaking up, decisions being made without all available perspectives, individuals only seeing things from their own point of view rather than a shared understanding of what is true.

In isolation, these moments seem insignificant. Over time, they slowly drain the potential from individuals, teams, and entire organizations.

The leadership challenge is not to add more, but to activate more.

For decades we’ve been equipping leaders to do that. Next week we’ll explore how it’s done.

On March 26th, Dr. Angie will be hosting a Verus Global Activation Session. You can join her 11:00 – 11:50am ET to discuss how to elevate human potential as a leadership and business imperative, and what is required to activate the potential already within your team. Ready? Let’s go!
